What is the Global Talent visa?

The Global Talent visa, formerly known as Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent), is a UK immigration category targeting exceptionally talented or promising individuals in specific fields who wish to work in the UK.

Do I qualify for the Global Talent visa?

To be eligible for a Global Talent visa, you must be recognized as a leader or emerging leader in fields such as digital technology, science, research, engineering, humanities, medicine, the arts, fashion, architecture, film, and television.

Before applying, you must either have been awarded a qualifying Prestigious Prize or obtained an endorsement from one of the six Home Office-approved endorsing bodies, each with specific eligibility requirements.

How do I apply?

Upon obtaining an endorsement or a Prestigious Prize, you can apply for the Global Talent visa. If relying on an endorsement, the visa application must be submitted within three months.

Applications are typically made in your country of nationality or residence, although there may be provisions to switch into the Global Talent category from within the UK.

What period of leave will I be given? Can I extend my visa?

If approved, the Global Talent visa is issued for five years. Before expiration, you can apply to extend the visa or, if eligible, apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (settlement) in the UK.

There is no maximum limit on visa extensions. To extend your visa, you must meet criteria, including maintaining endorsement validity and earning money in the UK related to your endorsement or prestigious prize.

What kind of activities can I undertake in the UK as a Global Talent visa holder?

As a Global Talent visa holder, you can work in the UK (including self-employment and voluntary work), except as a professional sportsperson or sports coach. You are also allowed to study in the UK, subject to conditions.

Can I bring my family with me?

The Global Talent visa allows you to bring a dependent spouse or partner and dependent children under 18 at the time of the initial application.

How quickly can I become settled in the UK?

In most cases, eligibility for Indefinite Leave to Remain is achieved after three years of continuous residence in the UK. If endorsed under “Exceptional Promise” criteria by specific endorsing bodies, the qualifying period for settlement is five years.

Eligibility for settlement includes meeting criteria related to continuous residence, endorsement, absence limits, English language proficiency, and earning money in the UK in the field related to your endorsement or prestigious prize during the last grant of leave.
