British Passport Application

Our XT 24 team, equipped with extensive expertise in preparing successful first British passport applications, specializes in immigration and nationality matters. We provide comprehensive guidance and assistance at every stage of your passport application to Her Majesty’s Passport Office (“HMPO”).

Once you attain British citizenship through registration or naturalization, applying for a British passport is the next step. While obtaining a British passport signifies the culmination of a significant immigration journey, it’s important to note that it isn’t automatically issued upon acquiring British Nationality; an application must be submitted.

How to Apply for a British Passport:

The application process depends on your location. If you’re applying within the UK, you have the option to submit your application:

  • Online
  • By post directly to UK Visas and Immigration
  • Via the Post Office Check & Send Service
  • By appointment (specific conditions apply)

For those applying from abroad, our diligent XT 24 team offers country-specific advice tailored to each case.

Required Documents:

In addition to the application form, you’ll need to provide:

  • Certificate of naturalization or registration
  • Two recent identical photographs meeting specific criteria
  • All current, uncancelled identity documents

Additional documents may be required based on your circumstances, such as the passport used for travel to the UK, other uncancelled passports in your name, your birth or adoption certificate, and evidence of your parents’ immigration status. A counter-signatory, chosen by you and known for at least two years, is also necessary to confirm your identity.

Processing Time:

Processing times vary, and we recommend allowing at least 10 weeks for your application. HMPO reserves the right to conduct interviews, and applicants may be required to attend a passport interview with the Identity and Passport Service.

An expedited service is available for first Child British passports through HMPO’s one-week Fast Track service, subject to appointment availability.

Eligibility and Potential Issues:

Only British nationals will be granted British passports. However, having British nationality doesn’t guarantee a passport. Possible reasons for refusal include court orders, bail conditions, suspicion of a serious crime, or outstanding government expenses.

A refusal, whether due to specific reasons or application errors, won’t necessarily hinder future attempts. Our experienced XT 24 team regularly guides clients successfully through challenging situations.
