What is the Private Life route? The Private

Life route constitutes a discretionary form of leave that the Home Office may grant to individuals who have established a Private Life in the UK.

Do I qualify for this visa? In general,

XT 24 considers Private Life applications from individuals who:

1. Have resided continuously in the UK for a minimum of 20 years.
2. Are under the age of 18 and have lived in the UK for at least 7 years.
3. Are aged between 18 and 25 years and have spent at least half of their life living continuously in the UK.
4. Are aged 18 years or above, have lived continuously in the UK for less than 20 years, but face significant obstacles if removed from the UK.

How long will the visa be valid for?

Permission to stay under the visa route is granted for a period of two and a half years at a time. Immediate settlement, however, can be granted to children born in the UK who have lived in the country continuously since birth and for at least 7 years.

How quickly can I become settled in the UK?

If you were born outside of the UK and were under the age of 18 when first granted leave under the route, you may be eligible to apply for settlement after 5 continuous years in the UK under this visa route.

If you were an adult when first granted leave under the Private Life route, you may be eligible to apply for settlement after 10 years in the UK under the Private Life route.
